At the Leidse Instrument Makers School  Thijs Wieman learned to work with the challenging material of glass. He was trained there as a scientific glassblower. Years later, during his Fine Arts studies in Utrecht, he discovered how to consciously harness the meaning and narrative qualities inherent in materials.

In addition to creating drawings, Wieman began exploring installational works. He chose to analyze and deconstruct the human body, dedicating himself to the theme of artificial life. One significant place where he continued his exploration of the body was the Mime School in Amsterdam. There, he discovered his own body as a subject. He was fascinated by how the mundane—daily routines and physical actions—could be deconstructed and abstracted. This approach allows for a shift in perspective, turning the ordinary into something with entirely new meaning.

Thijs Wieman is a versatile, multidisciplinary autonomous artist with a wide range of interests. Both in his drawings and installations, he employs sampling. Fragments of objects and stories reflect his personal attraction to specific images, illustrating the fiction we live in.
