It is completely silent, there is no movement, as there is no difference left. Imagine it as a world without light or darkness, no sound, or any distinguishable variations in any direction. Even the basic distinction between “this” and “that” has vanished. No possibility of change, no passage of time. This meaningless uniformity is called maximum entropy.

In the pursuit of preserving the difference; against the pull of entropy, the spectacle of nature is formed. Evolution appears, as a byproduct in the constant organisation against the threat of meaningless formlessness.

Somewhere in that evolution, organisms with light-sensitive molecules emerged. It allowed these bacteria to determine the source of light. This served the organisms in two ways: They could move towards the light as it signified a tempting source of food, or away from it, if the light source was toxic.

As soon as something is perceived through human eyes, my eyes, I attribute meaning to it. Objects appear which repel and entice, inspire fear and provoke greed. The world is a place laden with images, meaning and stories to which we either cling or resist.
